Group music

general groups

  • currently guitar (acoustic) and vocal groups

  • (also looking for participants in junior vocal, strings group, jazz and junior rock groups)

  • open to anyone who fulfils the following criteria, 

    • approximately level 2 standard instrumental

    • no previous experience necessary in vocal groups

  • essentially aim is to be fun, but also to foster some developmental techniques

  • performances at bach2roq concerts OR by special arrangement only. (Concerts are held near the end of each term, and each member is expected to participate. The details are announced at the start of each term)

  • no or limited external performances (exceptions include eg. carols, community concerts)

  • recording of tracks for rehearsal purposes

  • video available for performances

  • repertoire suggestions requested from students

  • suggestions welcome from students regarding score arrangements, and these should be directed to the group conductor before presentation to the group

  • all group activities to be coordinated by the group instructor, who may request individual students to lead in specific exercises eg warm-ups

  • scores and software should be obtained from 

    • official publishers where appropriate. Students are expected to purchase scores when appropriate

advanced groups

  • currently guitar group and rock group

  • open to anyone who fulfils the following criteria, 

    • approximately level 5 standard instrumental and / or vocal

    • must be able to perform a solo work in a public venue

    • sight reading/singing to approximately level 4 standard

    • part playing/singing to approximately level 4 standard

    • must attend to at least 80% of sessions in a term (notice required if absent)

    • must attend the general class of the same instrument and may at times be required to lead activities in the general class

    • be prepared to perform in public venues when appropriate

    • be committed to group activities when arranged

  • performances at bach2roq concerts (Concerts are held near the end of each term, and each member is expected to participate. The details are announced at the start of each term)

  • external performances as arranged - participation is expected

  • recordings to be done within the group session times both for rehearsal and demo

  • repertoire suggestions requested from advanced students 

  • suggestions welcome from students regarding score arrangements, and these should be directed to the group conductor before presentation to the group
